           When I read that Bloomberg stated in his interview with the Amsterdam News, “Charter schools are the private schools for the minority community,” I said to myself, “How dare he.” Who says? However, I’ll agree with him to this extent. Many people in the Black and Latino community believe that a charter school is some sort of private school. That’s because many people are uninformed of what a charter school is all about and the process for enrollment as it sometimes is, is by lottery. BACKGROUND

FOMBBL BackgroundThe "Friends of the Macombs Bridge Branch Library" also known as "FOMBBL" or "The Friends of Macombs" is primarily composed of a group of Concerned Citizens in the community that patronizes the Macombs Bridge Branch Library.  The Friends of Macombs is concerned about:

  • The "second class" status in which the Macombs Bridge Branch Library is held by the New York Public Library. This is evidenced by the over sixty year lack of interest demonstrated in building a new Library for the community serviced by the Branch;
  • The deplorable manner in which the New York Public Library has maintained the Macombs Bridge Branch Library in a space the size of a small studio apartment for over sixty years;
  • The extensive delays in repairing broken personal computers at the Branch;
  • The exclusion of the community from the process of determining a site for a new Macombs Bridge Branch;
  • The “non-response” from the New York Public Library about general issues affecting the Macombs Bridge Branch that do not center on the building of a new library;
  • Not having a permanent Librarian assigned to the Macombs Bridge Branch consistently for more than two years;
